Sandra DekicWith college now in hindsight, Sanda Dekic entered the “real world” in search of her dream job. She found numerous companies to send her resume, but Zillow Rentals caught her eye. The company sounded so fun that she wanted to work there. Badly.

However, rather than putting in an application to Zillow Rentals first, she decided to save the best for last. Learn about Dekic’s reasoning and of her other talents in a recent interview we had with her:

Q: How did you end up joining our team?

In college, I started to become interested in business and sales. So I started to look for these kinds of jobs when I was getting ready to graduate.

I found Zillow Rentals. It really looked like a really good company, and I really wanted to apply. I kept putting it off, because I didn’t want to be rejected.

When I finally applied, I did my interviews and came to happy hour. Everyone was great and really funny. After that, I was extended an offer to join.

Q: What do you do everyday?

I reach out to small and medium property managers, making sure that they’re taking advantage of our free rental advertising on Zillow.

Q: What do you think is the best feature of the product?

I like the lead management and the syncing abilities. You get all your incoming leads added directly to Zillow Rentals. And on top of that, we sync Zillow Rentals to your Facebook page and your website.  It helps property managers get more exposure and keep their vacancy rates low.

Q: How has your transition been from college to the working world?

Part of me is still holding on to college life. I’m still living in Berkeley in the same apartment when I lived in school. I still have a lot of friends that are in college.

Q: What do you miss about college?

I miss having a flexible schedule during the day and having more free time. But I love having a job.

Q: Other than selling, what other talents do you have?

I can speak 4 languages. I speak English, Serbian, German, and sign language.

Q: Why do you know so many languages?

I was born in Serbia and up until I was 9 years old, I lived in Germany. I didn’t speak a single word of English. Well, other than “hi”.

I moved to Los Angeles when I was 9. My parents refused to put me into an ESL class, so I was put into a regular class with everyone else. I learned English in about 3-4 months on my own.

Q: You’re one of the quietest on the sales team. Do you have any secrets?

I’m a black belt in taekwondo.
